Our transparent, science-based scoring system helps you compare protein powders by safety, purity, and how well they fit your goals.
Evidence-based information about protein supplements, nutrition, and health
This guide focuses on protein powders designed for fat loss, performance, health, and longevity. We compare whey, whey isolate, casein, vegan proteins, and some multi-source blends.
Not included (yet): complete meal replacements, bars, RTD shakes, collagen-only products, niche flavors, or products that cannot be compared fairly. These are excluded not because they are "bad," but because they serve different purposes.
We're expanding the database every month. If a product you use is missing, feel free to reach out and suggest it.
Whole foods should always be your foundation. Protein supplements are simply a convenient tool for busy days, travel, or when you need to hit daily protein goals but don't have time to cook. They don't replace real food, but they can complement a balanced diet.
Whey isolate is often the best choice for fat loss because it's high in protein (85–90%), low in carbs and fat, and very satiating. Look for products with no artificial sweeteners, low sodium (<100mg), and clean ingredient lists. Vegan options like pea protein can also work well if you prefer plant-based.
Whey isolate is whey protein that has been filtered to remove more lactose, fat, and carbs. It's typically 85–90% protein, while standard whey is around 70–80%. Isolate is better for fat loss, lactose sensitivity, and clean eating. Standard whey is more affordable and still effective for general performance and muscle gain.
It depends on the person and the dose. Some people tolerate them fine, while others experience digestive issues, cravings, or gut microbiome disruption. Sucralose alone is generally considered safer than acesulfame-K or combinations of multiple artificial sweeteners. If you're sensitive, choose products with no sweeteners or natural options like stevia or monk fruit.
A common guideline is 1.6–2.2g of protein per kg of body weight for active individuals. For fat loss, aim for the higher end (2–2.4g/kg) to preserve muscle and stay full. For general health, 1.2–1.6g/kg is usually sufficient. Always prioritize whole foods first, and use supplements to fill gaps.
Start by defining your goal (fat loss, performance, health, longevity). Then filter by protein source (whey isolate for leanness, casein for slow release, vegan for plant-based). Check the sweetener type, sodium level, and certifications. Finally, look at the Fit4Mastery Score to see how it ranks overall. Use the filters and tooltips on this page to narrow down your options.

We're constantly expanding the database. If a product you use is missing, it may be because we haven't reviewed it yet, or it falls into a category we don't currently cover (e.g., meal replacements, bars, RTD shakes). Feel free to reach out and suggest it — we'll add it to our review queue.
Quality Databases:
All data collected from public Swiss retailers (Galaxus, Coop Vitality, MyProtein, Sponser, Nutriathletic, iHerb.ch, and others). We update scores monthly or upon verified product changes. Products without third-party certification or complete nutritional data receive lower scores to reflect transparency gaps.
